Dress Code Information

Our experience is that when students follow a dress code, they have increased self-esteem, which affects their attitudes and approach to learning. Our Dress Code guidelines are below. If you have questions, please contact the Main Office at Info@SouthportSchool.org or call 203.254.2044.

2023/2024 DRESS CODE

The Southport School Color Palette: Navy, Gray, Light Blue, White, Khaki

The dress expectation is:

Pants

  • Classic dress pants in the TSS color palette
  • Chinos, khakis, or golf pant
  • Neat and hemmed pants
  • No cargo pants or leggings

Shorts​

Shorts can only be worn in August, September, October, April, May, and June.

  • Bermuda-style shorts in the TSS color palette
  • Shorts hem cannot be higher than 2” above the top of the knee

Skirts, Skorts, Jumpers, and Polo Dresses

  • Solid colors only in the TSS color palette
  • Skorts recommended on PE days. Undershorts must be worn under skirts or dresses on the day the student has PE
  • Hems cannot be higher than 2” above the top of the knee
  • Anything worn underneath for warmth should not appear below the hemline

Shirts

  • Solid or striped collared shirts in the TSS color palette
    • TSS-branded optional
    • Polo or button-down, short or long sleeve
  • White turtleneck under a TSS fleece is acceptable
  • No long sleeve shirts under short sleeve polos

Shoes

  • Loafers, Oxfords, Mary Janes, all-weather moccasins
  • Sneakers in the TSS color palette (required on gym days
  • Dress boots may be worn from November until April break but must be changed to sneakers for PE
  • For safety reasons, no backless or open-toed shoes, slipper-like shoes, or Uggs

Sweaters, Blazers & Layering

TSS-branded Fleeces & Vests

  • Full zip, pullovers, and half zips
  • No shoulder designs, stripes, patterns, piping
  • TSS logo required
  • No hoodies of any kind

    • Solid colors in the TSS color palette
    • No shoulder designs, stripes, patterns, piping
    • Navy blue blazer

Socks & Tights

  • Socks of your choosing
  • Ankle socks, knee-highs, or tights
  • Leggings are acceptable under skirts or dress if the socks match in color and cover fully to sock
