Learning Strategies Program

Dates: June 27, 2012 - July 31, 2012   (no school Wednesday July 4)

Hours:  Monday - Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Tuition: $2,500

Age Range:  10-12

Help Your Child Meet the Demands of Middle School   This newly expanded program is specifically designed to help students meet the demands unique to middle school. Structured, success-oriented classes provide skill maintenance while developing strategies and habits that help maximize learning. Each day, students will receive instruction in the following classes:

• Learning Strategies: Explicit instruction in time management skills, note-taking, research/ report writing , and study and test-taking strategies is provided in this class daily and reinforced throughout the day.
• Tutorial: An emphasis is placed on developing pre-reading strategies and integrating higher order thinking skills to enhance reading comprehension.
• Mathematics: Computation and problem-solving skills are emphasized.
• Writing Skills: Emphasis is placed upon developing and applying the writing process to a variety of writing tasks.
• Literature: High-interest literature and discussion-based activities are used to enhance vocabulary and develop literary analysis skills.
