Student Trips and Events

Ski Trips

Eagle Hill-Southport has sponsored weekend ski/snowboard trips for the past twenty years that have been enjoyable for students and staff alike. Whether students receive a helping hand from a teacher, keep track of their own equipment, or figure out just how they will beat the teachers down the mountain, the weekend trips have been filled with good fun for all. Some specifics of the ski trips are:

• Skiing takes place at Berkshire East in Charlemont, MA, and lodging is at The Olde Willow Inn, a short drive from the mountain
• Group is limited to approximately 16 students with 4 or 5 staff members
• Parents can opt to purchase weekend rental equipment and lessons

Camp Jewell

For the past several years Eagle Hill-Southport has taken a group of students to Camp Jewell, an outdoor adventure camp in Colebrook CT, at the foot of the Berkshires. The goals established in conjunction with the Camp Jewell staff are accomplished through supervised activities planned with the specific needs of our students in mind. Group activities in which students face various challenges and problems are designed to increase cohesiveness within the team and improve communication skills. Due to this emphasis on team building, we devote considerable thought to the grouping of students. Some goals include:

• Promoting teamwork
• Improving problem-solving skills
• Fostering independence
• Increasing self-esteem

School-Wide Events

The school provides fun-filled activities for the entire school population. These events allow students and teachers to spend time together outside of the academic setting. They often kick off the start of a vacation.

• Ice Skating Party
• Beach Day
• Pancake Breakfast (This end-of-year event coincides with Southport's Blessing of the Fleet and Annual Parade. All members of the Eagle Hill community are invited to attend -- current students and families, alumni and their families, teachers, board members, and friends.)
